Practice Information

Dr Scott-Young

Dr Scott-Young lives and breathes our mission each day (often 7 days a week!) – changing lives through excellence in spine care.

Appointments to see Dr Scott-Young take place at the Gold Coast Spine clinic located in the Southport central business district on the Gold Coast.

He is in full time private practice.  We are not able to see patients through the public hospital system in Queensland.  Queensland Health has information about how to get a referral to a Gold Coast University Hospital public outpatients’ clinic.

If an admission to hospital is necessary, Dr Scott-Young works at Pindara Private Hospital.

Who to contact at Gold Coast Spine

At Gold Coast Spine our staff are used to all sorts of questions, like I’m lost in the car park where is that lavender building?  When you get in touch, we will ensure we find out what you need and who would be the best person to help you.

Patient Coordinators

If you are new to Gold Coast Spine, our patient coordinators will help with each step along the way to attending your first appointment with your surgeon.  They can answer your questions about how to become a patient, your appointment date and time, what investigations you need to have performed prior to your appointment and what your surgeon’s consultation fee will be.  They will make sure both you and the surgeon have everything you need for the appointment.

Reception

If you are a current patient at Gold Coast Spine and wish to arrange a follow up or postoperative appointment, our receptionists will assist you in booking your appointment.  They can also help you with any general enquiry you have and direct you to the team member who can answer your question.

Surgical Services – Nurses

Surgical Services at Gold Coast Spine is a team of nurses and surgical coordinators who work closely with Dr Scott-Young to ensure that our patients take all the necessary steps to be physically and medically ready to have surgery and are well looked after following their surgery.

If you and your surgeon agree to proceed with a surgical solution to your spinal condition, the Surgical Services team will assist you in coordinating all the arrangements for your admission to hospital for your procedure.

Our nurses are available to discuss any questions you may have about getting ready for surgery, your admission to hospital, the discharge home and your postoperative progress.  During the postoperative period, our nurses work closely with Dr Scott-Young and can answer questions or concerns about how you are going with your recovery.

Financial Services

Gold Coast Spine’s financial services team is able to help you with any inquiries you may have regarding:

  • Gold Coast Spine’s payment policies
  • The Surgical Estimate we have provided to you in relation to your proposed surgery
  • Making the prepayment prior to your surgery
  • A financial statement that you have received from Gold Coast Spine
  • Claiming your rebates from Medicare and your private health fund

Typing Services

We have a team of highly qualified medical typists that transcribe Dr Scott-Young’s dictation to ensure that your referring doctor and any third parties involved in your care get timely correspondence from your surgeon about your diagnosis, treatment options, prognosis and rehabilitation needs.

Research

Gold Coast Spine has been conducting clinical research for two decades.  As the pioneer of total disc replacement surgery in Australia, Prof Matthew Scott-Young understood the importance of long term follow up of his surgical results.  It’s simple, how can you say how effective your surgery is for patients unless you keep asking them?  In partnership with Bond University, Dr Scott-Young conducts a patient-centric clinical outcomes study.

If you are a participant in one of our research projects, our dedicated research assistants are available to answer any questions you may have about your participation in the project.

General Manager

At the helm of our team at Gold Coast Spine is our General Manager, Ms Sandra Walter BA (Hons) LLB (Hons).

Ms Walter is responsible for the service provided to you by the team at Gold Coast Spine, from your first telephone enquiry until you are discharged from the care of your surgeon.  It is our mission at Gold Coast Spine not just to provide you with the best possible clinical care but also the highest customer service we can deliver as a team.  Ms Walter is keen to hear from you in relation to any questions or concerns you have about the services provided to you at Gold Coast Spine (as well as any compliments!).
