Travelling Patients

If you are a patient seeking your first appointment with Assist Prof McEntee and you are not local to the Gold Coast, Assist Prof McEntee wants to make sure you understand that the relationship between a doctor and a patient is one that involves obligations on both sides.  If you are a patient who needs to travel substantial distances by car or airplane to access your treating surgeon’s services, you need to give careful consideration to choosing a surgeon outside your local area.

When you are a patient who lives at a distance from your surgeon, you will inevitably incur more expenses in accessing your surgeon’s services.  Further, should you undergo surgery under the care of Assist Prof McEntee, you must be prepared for the extra cost and inconvenience of having your surgery outside your local area.  You need also to be prepared to return for all clinically necessary post operative reviews with Assist Prof McEntee.  Post operative patients are reviewed regularly following their discharge from hospital and this includes appointments at 2 weeks post discharge, 3 months, and six months.  If you live more than two hours away from the Gold Coast and undergo surgery with Assist Prof McEntee, you are required to make arrangements to remain in the Gold Coast area until your 2 week post discharge appointment.  This will ensure that you are near your treating surgeon, should any problems arise immediately following your discharge.
