Physicians and surgeons refer patients for many different kinds of radiological investigations to assist them in diagnosing their patient’s condition and also to check a patient’s progress following surgery. However, not every investigation is required for every spinal condition. Your surgeon will decide which investigation will best help him in your care as his patient at various stages during your course of treatment.
Here you will find some general information about the typical radiology your spine surgeon may request. The information is general in nature and should you have any specific questions regarding the investigation you have been asked to undergo, you should ask your surgeon or the radiographer performing the investigation. Common radiological investigations requested by a spine surgeon include MRI scans, CT scans, plain x-rays, discograms, myelograms, and bone mineral density scans.
